After travelling to South America and Australia with Hyatt International, I returned to Europe, where I was responsible for pre-opening and General Management of Principe Felipe Hotel at La Manga Club in Spain, where I also held the position of CEO of the entire 1,400 Ha, one of Europe’s leading real estate developments.
This high-end real estate development involved the takeover and setting up of policies and procedures for one of Europe’s biggest resorts by Hyatt International, followed by the upgrading of the resort with the opening of the 193-room Principe Felipe Hotel, three championship golf courses, 19 tennis courts and 17 restaurants & bars.
A staff of 700 employees is always going to offer an interesting mix and unique challenges, but in this case we started with 50% strong unionist employees, many with more than 25 years experience of working on the site; we then brought in 50% young energetic hotel personnel, all in need of training, whose aptitudes and strengths needed to be identified before we placed them accordingly within the existing team.
The guest experience
Being able to manage all the separate resort elements – golf, tennis, accommodation, food & beverage, kids’ club, owner’s/member’s club, real estate, transportation, etc. – under one umbrella, created one of Europe’s first true destination resorts. This enormous range of services, all sharing the same philosophy of operation, provides a comfortable stay and all-round guest experience for individuals, groups and families.
One of Europe's first true destination resorts.
